The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is a joint international institution of the European Union (EU) and African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States. Its mission is to advance food and nutritional security, increase prosperity and encourage sound natural resource management in ACP countries. It provides access to information and knowledge, facilitates policy dialogue and strengthens the capacity of agricultural and rural development institutions and communities.

Purpose of call :

Recent studies indicate that climate change and variability have critical implications for all aspects of food security, freshwater and marine fish harvests, biodiversity and ecosystems. In particular, ACP is one of the most vulnerable regions to these actual and potential negative effects. Over the years, farmers have however been modifying their farm practices to adapt to changing climate and have evolved approaches that increase resilience to variable and changing climatic conditions. New agricultural practices have been introduced to improve the capacity to adapt to climate change. Policies have emerged at different levels (local, national and sub-regional) that encourage the adoption of such practices, and new tools and innovative financing mechanisms have been introduced to reduce the impacts of climatic risks on farmers. Compared with the extent of information existing on the challenges associated with climate change, less information is available on what proven solutions that have worked or have high potentials to do so. This call aims at identifying and documenting agricultural practices, tools and policies that have helped farmers to continue to produce food under adverse changing climate understand the extent of the impacts of such solutions and draw lessons from scaling them up. We are looking for proposals that provide information that is useful to any or all ACP regions or that can provide lessons for use in the different regions

In this call, we will give priority to applications that address climate change from the perspectives of opportunities and solutions that have successfully addressed climate-induced challenges to food security, agricultural production and resilience or have high potential to do so. Proposals may be submitted on any of the following areas :

  • Practices and technologies for adapting to climate change that have been widely adopted by farmers, over a wide area or in several countries
  • Conducive policies that have successfully contributed to climate-change adaptation and/or mitigation in agriculture
  • ICT tools and processes that have been successfully deployed to address the challenges posed by climate change in agriculture

Who can apply ? The call is open to individuals, groups of individuals, and organisations

Language : Proposals may be submitted in either French or English

Submission method : by email to cc-call@cta.int

Deadline : applications must be submitted on or before 14 October, 2014 at 23:59 hours
